Student Shot Dead – On December 17, BBC reported on the progress of the gun violence in the United States after a student suspect opened fire at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin.

The attack resulted in the deaths of at least two people, one teacher and one student. Six others were injured, two of them seriously, and a suspect was killed. Authorities have said the attacker was a 15-year-old female student and are investigating the motive.

Madison Police Chief Lt. Gen. Shawn Barnes said officers were called to the school at approximately 11 a.m. local time on Dec. 16. Officers responded to the scene and found the gunman dead. The injured were rushed to the hospital.

Meanwhile, officers collected evidence of a handgun and said the shooting occurred in a single area, but it is not yet clear whether it was in a classroom or a hallway.

The United States has been hit by a spike in mass shootings, including in schools. The K-12 Violence Project, a nonprofit that works to reduce violence in society, reported more than 300 shootings this year.

And according to EducationWeek, there have been 38 school shootings across the United States this year, not including the latest incident, resulting in 16 deaths and 53 injuries.
