Half a million trees have been cut down for Elon Musk’s Tesla Gigafactory in Berlin

Between 2020 and 2023, around 500,000 trees were cut down to clear land for Tesla’s Gigafactory near Berlin, which began operations in March 2022.

This deforestation raised environmental concerns and led to protests, underscoring the conflict between industrial growth and ecological conservation.

In response, Tesla launched a tree-planting initiative in 2024, planting over one million trees to offset the environmental impact. To achieve this, Tesla employed specialized machinery designed for large-scale planting, enabling efficient and effective reforestation.

This effort aimed to mitigate the environmental impact of the factory’s development and address criticisms from local communities and environmental activists.

Tesla’s tree-planting project showcases its effort to balance industrial growth with environmental responsibility and reduce its ecological footprint.
