Margaret Hamilton, the lead software engineer was the first programmer hired for the Apollo project at MIT and the first woman on the team.
As a computer scientist, Hamilton led the Software Engineering Division at MIT, which developed the software used in Apollo missions.
She is also known for helping make software engineering an important field.
Her careful work made sure no software bugs were found during any Apollo missions with astronauts.
Additionally, she created a “priority display” system that alerted astronauts to any system errors or issues.
