“It took me 20 minutes to locate her,” Samantha shared. “She was hiding inside the couch. I wrapped her in a blanket and put her in my cat carrier backpack.”
But the escape wasn’t over yet.
“When we got outside, the fire had moved closer, and I couldn’t get back to my car,” she explained. “I was stuck between the fire and the ocean, so I decided to head toward the water.”
With her cat strapped to her back and a suitcase in tow, Samantha dodged falling flaming branches and palm leaves. “It felt like something out of an action movie,” she said. “I was running for my life.”
Samantha wasn’t the only one showing bravery. Actor Steve Guttenberg (It Takes Two, Police Academy) also jumped in to help people evacuate in the Pacific Palisades area.
During a KTLA 5 live broadcast on Jan. 7, he urged residents to leave their car keys behind if abandoning their vehicles. “This isn’t a parking lot,” he said. “We need to move cars so fire trucks can get through.”
Pointing toward slow-moving traffic, the 66-year-old explained, “There are families, pets, and people up there who need help. We’re doing what we can to clear the road.”
Many residents, including celebrities like Paris Hilton, Mandy Moore, and Jamie Lee Curtis, were forced to leave their homes and belongings as wildfires spread across the region.
